Truman Swimming Adds To Its 2004-05 Recruiting Class
Truman swimming head coach Colleen Murphy announced today that four men and one woman have recently signed National Letters of Intent to join the Bulldogs next season. Those five athletes join an early signing class of four men and six women.
Ryan Ferrell (Memorial Senior/Tulsa, Okla.) will make a big impact in the sprint freestyle events for Truman as well as contribute in the butterfly and backstroke. Ferrell won the 50 and 100 freestyle events at the Oklahoma High School State Championships.
Drew Olson (Papillion La Vista/Papillion, Neb.) will swim sprint butterfly and add depth in the sprint freestyle events. At the Nebraska High School State Championships, Olson placed third in the 100 fly and fifth in the 50 free. He and three other teammates, including fellow Truman signee Tim Scheuber, put together a state championship relay team in the 200 medley relay and 200 free relay.
Alex Totura (Nequa Valley/Naperville, Ill.) is a strong distance and mid-distance and will help strengthen those areas on the team. Totura qualified for the Illinois High School State Championships in the 200 free. He is a strong competitor in the longer distances as well.
Tony Wolff (Rosemount Sr./Inver Grove Hts, Minn.) will be an athlete in the middle distance and sprint freestyle events. He placed fourth in the 100 free and fifth in the 50 free at the Minnesota High School State Championships. Wolff also led his 200 medley relay team to a fifth-place finish and his 400 free relay to a sixth-place finish.
"This is a very talented group of swimmers and each is very versatile," said Murphy. "I am excited for next season because we have some much needed depth in the sprint events. They also embody what our university is looking for in a student athlete."
The four-time NCAA Division II National Champion women's swim team has added Whitney Wodstrchill (Thomas Jefferson/Atkins, Iowa). Wodstrchill is a US Open qualifier in the 200 backstroke and will also contribute in the IM events. At the Iowa High School State Championships, she won the 100 backstroke, placed third in the 200 IM and led her team to a third-place finish in the 200 medley relay.
"Whitney is a very versatile swimmer that can contribute in every event and be a player on our national team," said Murphy. "We are very excited that she will be a Bulldog and joining our outstanding incoming class."
