Bulldog Swimming Welcomes Eight Newcomers For 2004-05 Season

The three time defending NCAA Division II champion women's swim team will welcome six recruits to its team next fall, while the Bulldog men also picked up two swimmers for next year.

"We are excited about our early signees," head coach Colleen Murphy said. "We really have a great group of student-athletes that will help continue our success here at Truman."

Emily Greenwood (Breckenridge, Mo./Penney)
Backstroke/Freestyle

Greenwood earned all-state honors in the 100-yard backstroke (3rd) and the 50 free (5th). Her 100 back time was under the standard for all-American consideration. Greenwood was also a USA Swimming sectional finalist in the backstroke events. In addition, she played softball and basketball.

"Emily fits perfectly at Truman and will continue to improve rapidly," Murphy indicated. "She is excited to focus solely on swimming and is an all-around great athlete who will have the opportunity to do good things in college. We are excited to have her as part of our program, and I know she will be a force in the backstroke for years to come."

Molly Polette (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette)
Freestyle/Individual Medley

Polette was all-state in the 200 and 500 freestyles and placed second in both events as a junior. She is a USA Swimming sectional finalist and qualifier in multiple events. Polette also runs cross country.

"Molly characterizes the Truman student-athlete perfectly," Murphy said. "She is an amazing student and a national level swimmer. Molly is a great addition to our team and will be an important contributor to our continued success at nationals."

Emily Pufall (Omaha, Neb./ Millard West)
Freestyle

Pufall is a high school all-American in the 50 and 100 freestyles and as part of her school's 200 medley relay. She is a USA Swimming national qualifier in the 50 free and a USA Swimming sectional finalist.

"When Emily visited Truman, it was evident that she was motivated and dedicated to success both athletically and academically and that she had found the perfect fit at Truman," Murphy boasted. "She is going to be an important part of our team and is excited to continue her career as a Bulldog. Emily is a true team player and will be another great addition to our squad. We have big plans for her over the next four years."

Stephanie Robinson (Highland Village, Texas/Edward S. Marcus)
Distance Freestyles

Stephanie is a USAS sectional qualifier and finalist. She took ninth-place in the USAS southern sectional in the 1,500-meter freestyle this past summer.

"Stephanie is a strong addition to our distance group," Murphy indicated. "She is a hard working and dedicated individual who fell in love with Truman on her visit and is excited about becoming a Bulldog. Stephanie is another in a great group of Texans we have here at Truman."

Angela Jones (Norfolk, Neb.)
Sprint Freestyles

Jones earned all-state honors in the 50 (6th) and 100 (5th) freestyles. She played softball this past fall as well.

"Angela really helps us out in the sprint freestyle events," Murphy said. "She is another multi-sport athlete that is excited to commit to swimming full time. We expect her to blossom in college and be a great sprinter."

Laura Harp (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North)
Butterfly/Individual Medley/Freestyle

Harp was an all-state selection in the butterfly and backstroke events. She was a USA Swimming sectional finalist in the butterfly as well as a multiple event qualifier. Harp was the high school teammate of current Bulldog freshman Lija Kaleps-Clark.

"We are excited to have Laura as part of our program," Murphy said. "We needed more depth in the fly because of graduation next year and Laura should step into an immediate role. We expect her to make great strides over the next four years and be an important contributor on our team."

Chris Grigereit (Chesterfield, Mo./Marquette)
Individual Medley/Breaststroke/Freestyle

Chris earned all-state honors in the 200 IM (2nd) and the 100 breaststroke (3rd). He is also a USA Swimming sectional finalist in a variety events.

"Chris is an extremely versatile swimmer and will contribute in a lot of different events for us," Murphy indicated. "He is an excellent student who has big goals for himself both academically and athletically. We believe he will continue that success here at Truman."

The women's swim team currently has a 0-2 dual record with both being competitive losses to Division I teams Missouri and Nebraska. The women have already qualified nine women for the NCAA championships. The Truman men are coming off a victory over Missouri-Rolla, but also lost to Missouri earlier in the year.

Tim Scheuber (Papillion, Neb./Papillion-La Vista)
Sprint Freestyles/Breaststroke

Scheuber was a Nebraska state champion as a member of the 200 medley relay and the 200 free relay contingents. He was also a state runner up in the 50 free and took fourth in the 100 breaststroke. His high school team won its first state team championship in 2003 and Scheuber as a multiple event USA sectional qualifier.

"Tim is a great fit for our team. We expect him to be a big contributor in the relays as well as the sprint freestyle as a freshman," Murphy indicated. "He comes from a program with a winning tradition and will mesh very well with our winning philosophy here at Truman."
