Women's Swim Team Wins Tampa Dual; Men's Team Edged In the Dual
Yesterday, the Truman women's swim team completed it Florida training trip by beating the University of Tampa, 155-108.
Winners for the women included freshman Lija Kaleps-Clark (Westerville, Ohio/Westerville North) in the 400-yard individual medley with a national cut of 4:34.30.
Junior Michaela Osborn (Tipton, Iowa) won both the 100 and 200 breaststrokes, while Truman swimmers also took second in third in those events as well!
Sophomore Meredith Rocha (Whitehouse, Texas/Grace Community) won the 100 and 200 butterfly races, while junior Diana Betsworth (East Moline, Ill./United Township) won the 100 freestyle. Freshman Lindsay McReynolds (Bloomington, Ill./University) won the 1,650 freestyle, sophomore Aimee Gregor (Southlake, Texas/Keller) won the 500 free and senior Katie May (Westmont, Ill./Hinsdale Central) won the 200 backstroke.
On the men's side, it came down to the last and most closely contested relay in the Tampa dual, but in the end, the Bulldogs fell 138-125 to their host.
Five Bulldogs earned first-place finishes, including senior Robby Cooper (Holden, Mo.) in the 200- and 500-yard freestyles; freshman Robert Fletcher (Broken Arrow, Okla.) in the 100 and 200 backstrokes; senior Andy Harken (Liberty, Mo.) in the 200 breaststroke; junior Eric Paden (Prairie Village, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) in the 1,650 freestyle; and sophomore Josh Otis (Johnston, Iowa/Dowling) in the 400 individual medley.
"Overall it was a good meet in the middle of some very tough training," head coach Colleen Murphy said. "The swimmers were tired, but stepped up and raced against a top 10 Tampa team."
