Truman Swim Teams Sweep Western Illinois

The Truman swim teams defeated Western Illinois on Friday evening in its final home meet of the year. The Bulldog women were victorious by a score of 126-71 while the men's team won by a 118-81 margin.

The men's team took first-place honors in seven of the first nine events in their dual, and also recorded the best times in the final two events which they swam as an exhibition. The women's team also dominated, recording the fastest times in all 11 of their events, with three coming as exhibition marks.

The top highlight was junior Sarah Wells, who made her first "A" cut of the 2003-04 season. Wells won the 400-yard IM in a time of 4:33.81. Junior Michaela Osborn was the only person to break a record during the dual meet. She rewrote her own pool mark in the 100-yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.43.

Tonight's meet was a tuneup for Truman's final dual of the 2003-04 season. Tomorrow afternoon, both squads will be in Springfield, Mo. for a 2 p.m. against their top swimming rival, Drury.
