Swimmers Get Into The Homecoming Spirit With Purple & White Week

For the third-straight year, both the men's and women's swim teams will be competing in Purple & White week. The two squads are split into a purple team and a white team and compete for points in activities including a run, ultimate frisbee, bowling and finally an intrasquad meet on Friday night at 6 p.m. in Pershing Natatorium.

The team began this tradition in 2002 when head coach Colleen Murphy returned to Truman. This year there will also be an Alumni meet Saturday at 11 a.m. when the current Truman men's and women's teams will take on former swimmers. Nearly 50 swimming alumni are scheduled to return to Kirksville this weekend for the event.

Purple & White week is a great way for both the men's and women's teams to get ready for the upcoming season with tough competition within the team.

Truman State Swimming Joins New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference

Truman swimming begins the 2004-05 season with a new addition to their schedule. The bulldogs will no longer be participating in the Central States Championship meet. This season, the Truman men's and women's swim teams will be traveling to Cleveland, Mississippi to compete at Delta State University in the New South Intercollegiate Swim Conference (NSISC).

Participating women's teams include: University of Tampa, Delta State University, Ouachita Baptist University, Henderson State University, Spring Hill College, McMurry University, Centenary College, Incarnate Word and Lambuth Eagles. Men's teams include: Delta State University, University of Tampa, Henderson State University, Ouachita Baptist University, Spring Hill College, McMurry University, and Centenary College. The range of competition available at this conference will allow the bulldogs' to compete against both new and old rivals.

In 2004, Tampa captured the women's conference title while Delta State captured the men's title. Both Bulldog teams should fit in nicely with the schools from this new conference.

The NSISC meet begins February 17 and concludes February 19. The meet format is similar to that of DII nationals with prelims/finals.

"We have competed at Delta's Christmas Invitational for the past two years and both the men's and women's teams have performed very well" said head coach Colleen Murphy. "I think a lot of national cuts could be made at this meet as the pool is the best in DII swimming."
