Truman Women's Swim Team Loses to Defending National Champion Drury By One Point

The Truman women's swim team, the 2000 NCAA Divisioin II runnersup, lost a close dual meet to the defending DII national champion Drury University women by a 103-102 score today. The Drury men also defeated Truman, 125-80.

The Truman women are now 6-2 in dual meets this year, and have three first-place finishes. The Bulldogs had first-place finishes in five events, while the Drury women won six races.

For Truman, freshman Krista Pray made the NCAA Division II qualifying time in the 100 backstroke with a time of 59.50 as lead-off in the women's 400 medley relay.

Sophomore Amanda Shearer made B cuts in the 200 breaststroke and the 200 individual medley with times of 2:27.71 and 2:14.71, respectively. Newcomer Sophie McKay made a B cut in the 100-yard freestyle with time of 54.69 as leadoff in the 400-yard freestyle relay.

The Truman men had three first-place finishes vs. Drury and are now 2-6 in duals with two first-place finishes for the year.

Drew Yemm was first in the 50-yard freestyle (21.87), Matt Pray was first in the 200-yard butterfly (1:55.58) and Kyle Sterup was the winner of the 500-yard freestyle (4:49.04).

Alex Mahon of Drury made a new NCAA B cut in the 1,000-yard freestyle, while Megan Krueger of Drury set a new pool record in the women's 50-yard freestyle (23.96).

The Panthers' Christen Rhodes made a new NCAA a cut in the women's 500-yard freestyle with a national qualifying time of 5:07.82.

Drury and Truman will see each other again in two weeks when the Panthers host the Central States Championships in Springfield Feb. 15-17.
