Dudley Named Collegeswimming.com Swimmer of the week

Phoenix, AZ ­ Collegeswimming.com named its first collegiate swimmers, of the week for the 2001-02 season.

A men's and women's swimmer from each of the three NCAA Divisions is chosen each week for the honor.

Junior Kelli Dudley (Topeka, Kan./West) was the women's Division II pick this week.

Dudley, already a Division II National Champion, led off Truman's winning 400 medley relay team against Wheaton College (Ill.) in a Division II qualifying time of 58.51, came from behind to win the 200 fly in 2:10.49 and finished second in the 200 breaststroke with a 2:25.67. The sophomore also crushed the Division II A-cut in the 400 IM with a time of 4:30.06, well under the qualifying mark of 4:36.19.

Freshman Fernando Alves of the University of North Dakota was the men's DII pick.

The Ipatinga, Brazil, native competed against the University of North Carolina and Minnesota and finished second in the 100 butterfly with a NCAA Division II A time of 50.02. Alves also finished ninth in the 200 freestyle with a B time of 1:44.63 and eighth in the 200 individual medley with a B time of 1:58.09.
