Mizzou Swimmers Top Bulldogs; Men Qualify Relays
The University of Missouri-Columbia may have come out ahead in points when it hosted the Bulldogs on Friday, but the Truman men still came out with some very important victories. The 'Dogs reached automatic qualifying times for the national meet in both the 200-yard medley relay and the 200-yard freestyle relay at the Dec. 10 dual.
Aside from those highlights, however, the Tigers stole the show. The Mizzou men scored 130 points to Truman's 75, while the women posted 136.5 points to Truman's 67.5.
Both of Truman's qualifying relays notched first-place finishes with their qualifying times. The 200 medley relay included sophomores Brian Teson (Kansas City, Mo./St. Pius X) and Andy Harken (Liberty, Mo./Liberty) and juniors Matt Pray (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) and Drew Yemm (Overland Park, Kan./Blue Valley NW), while sophomore Vince Struble (Omaha, Neb./Creighton Prep), Harken, Pray and Yemm made up the 200-yard freestyle relay contingent.
Junior Sara Hatcher (Kingdom City, Mo./North Callaway) championed the 50-yard freestyle, bettering her A-cut time. Yemm also dominated the 50-yard freestyle, winning the event for the fifth time this season.
Junior Kelli Dudley (Topeka, Kan./West) won the 400-yard IM, and she improved her A-cut time with a third-place finish in the 100-yard backstroke. Also improving an A-cut time was freshman Michaela Osborn (Tipton, Iowa), who took fourth in the 100-yard breaststroke.
Next up for the 'Dogs is a team-building trip to Florida over Christmas break, which will include a bout of competition at the University of Tampa Relays on Jan. 12.
