Bulldogs Make National Qualifying Marks at UNO Invitational

Both the men's and women's swimming teams came out of a four-dual weekend at home unbeaten. The Bulldog squads were the only ones that didn't lose at least once in the six-school Truman State University Dual Meet Invitational.

The most notable victory was the men's 110-95 win over University of Missouri-Rolla on Saturday afternoon. The 'Dogs had not beaten the Miners since 1997, and the only other dual victory the men had registered over UMR in the team's history came in the 1994-95 season.

At the same time, the women overpowered the University of Nebraska-Omaha 125-78. In the 200-yard backstroke, junior Kelli Dudley (Topeka, Kan./West) charted her fourth A cut for the national meet, swimming a 2:06.94 against UNO. Junior Liz Hug (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville) made her first A cut of the season with a 5:05.54 in the 500-yard freestyle.

Earlier on Saturday the 'Dogs took on the University of South Dakota. The women dominated the dual 137-50, and the men followed suit, 119-84. Dudley swam a 2:09.32 in the 200-yard IM for an A cut, and junior Sara Hatcher (Kingdom City, Mo./North Callaway) posted her second A cut with a 23.82 in the 50-yard freestyle.

On Sunday, freshman Michaela Osborn (Tipton, Iowa) highlighted the dual against Delta State University. Her 1:07.36 performance in the 100-yard breaststroke busted the long-standing school record and pool record set by Holly Hiatt in 1994. Hug also made another A cut, finishing the 200-yard freestyle in 1:54.66. The women went on to win, 139-58, as did the men, 120-83.

The 'Dogs last bout of competition for the weekend was against Washington University, in which the women won 119-78 and the men won 122-81.

The winning weekend left the men with a perfect 4-0 dual record, while the women rose to a 4-1 dual record. Both teams will compete next at the UNO Invitational Dec. 1-2.
