Swimming Teams Begin 2002-03 Campaign Tonight

The two-time defending national championship women's swimming team, along with the Truman men's swimming team, will begin the 2002-03 campaign on Saturday.

The Bulldog teams kickoff the season with the Purple and White Intrasquad meet, starting at 6:30 p.m. tonight at the Pershing Natatorium. On Saturday morning, the Bulldogs host their Alumni Meet and expect several former Bulldog swimmers to be in the water, beginning at 10 a.m.

The women return all but two individuals from last year's 18-woman team that successfully defended its national title.

The men also return a large contingent of performers from last year's trip to the NCAA championships where they finished ninth overall.

Truman will swim its first regular season meet at Nebraska on Oct. 19. The 'Dogs first regular season home meet will take place on Nov. 2 as Truman plays host to Missouri.

A new meet on the schedule this year is the Dec. 18-20 gathering at the Delta State Invitational in Cleveland, Miss. Look for both Bulldog teams to qualify a large group for nationals at this meet where they will face some of the best competition in NCAA Divisions I and II.
