Truman Swim Teams Split At Western Illinois

The Truman men's and women's swimming teams competed in dual meets at Western Illinois on Friday. The women beat WIU 118-78, while the Bulldog men lost to the Leathernecks, 120-85.

Freshman Kelli Dudley (Topeka, Kan./West) made the national qualifying time with a first-place finish in the 400 individual medley with a time of 4:38.64.

Other first-place finishers for the women were, sophomore Bridget Riley (Olathe, Kan./Olathe) in the 200-yard freestyle in 1:59.41 and the 500 free in 5:15.71; freshman Rebecca Wagner (Burwin, Ill./Carl Sandburg) in the 50 freestyle in 25.37; senior Jen Malone (Duncanville, Texas) in the 100-yard freestyle in 55.09; freshman Liz Hug (Maryville, Ill./Collinsville) in the 100-yard backstroke in 1:00.17; and the 200-medley relay team of junior Andrea Newton (Clive, Iowa), freshman Jenny Dobratz (Brooklyn, Minn./Park Center), Dudley and Wagner.

First-place finishers for the men were, senior Mike Hoskovec (Omaha, Neb./Millard South) in the 400-yard individual medley in 4:23.61; freshman Matt Pray (Naperville, Ill./Naperville North) in the 100-yard butterfly in 53.28; senior Steve De La Piedra (Jefferson City, Mo.) in the 100-yard backstroke in 54.50; and senior Jonathan Kretz (Hoffman Estates, Ill. /William Fremd) in the 500-yard freestyle in 4:26.42.

The Bulldogs will be home for the first time this season on Friday, Nov. 5, when the women play host to Nebraska-Kearney at 5 p.m. at the Pershing Natatorium, while the men will dual with Missouri-Rolla, also at 5 p.m. Friday.

On Saturday, the men's and women's swim teams are home again for duals with South Dakota at 8:30 a.m. and with Lewis University (Ill.), beginning at 3 p.m.
