Women's Swim Team Defeats Division I Western Illinois; Truman Men Fall to Leathernecks

The Truman State University men's and women's swimming team travelled to Western Illinois on Saturday. The women won by 121-72 score, while the Bulldog men were defeated 115-90.

The Lady Bulldogs dominated the freestyle events. Bridget Riley won the 1000 Freestyle, while Bryna Busch followed with a third place finish, both achieving their NCAA B Cuts with times of 10:33.35 and 10:46.44 respectively. The Bulldogs went 1-2-3 in the 50 and 200 freestyle events. Sara Hatcher (24.37), Busch (25.17), and freshman Megan Pittman (Adair, Ill/Macomb South) (25.71) topped WIU in the 50. In the 200 Liz Hug achieved her B cut with a time 1:56.31, followed by Jess Martin (1:57.69), and Katie May (1:59.33). The women also went 1-2 in the 100 free-style with Andrea Newton (55.23), and Pittman (56.29). They also posted the top two times in the 500 freestyle, with Martin and Riley achieving the B cut with times of 5:12.60 and 5:15.23.

The women were also strong in the strokes. Kelli Dudley won the 100 backstroke with a A cut time of 59.22 while Hug swam the B cut time of 1:00.05. Allison Blythe (1:01.17), and May (1:02.36) went 1-2 in the 100 butterfly. Dudley (1:10.12), and Christie Williamson (1:10.38), posted the fastest times in the 100 Breaststroke. Williamson won the 200 IM in the B cut time of 2:14.46 while Blythe (2:17.53), came in second. The women also posted the top two times in the 400 Free and 400 Medley Relays

Truman men swam strong against the Leathernecks. The high point of the meet for the Bulldogs was in the 100 butterfly where they scored the top three places with Matt Pray cruising to a B cut in the time of 52.18. Andy Harkin (54.40) and Caleb Hopkins (55.99) finished second and third. The men posted their best times of the season in the 400 Medley and 400 Free relays, winning the medley with a time of 3:34.99 and getting second in the free relay in a time of 3:16.48.
