Truman Men Finish Third at MIAA Tournament

The Truman men's tennis team completed the regular season this past weekend with a third-place finish at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Tournament. Southwest Baptist won the tournament, while Northwest Missouri placed second. Truman was followed by Washburn, Missouri-Rolla and Emporia, respectively.

Freshmen George Kidera (St. Louis/Chaminade) and Adam Rees (Shelbyville, Ind.) were the top finishers for Truman as both placed second, Kidera at the No. 5 spot and Rees at No. 6 singles.

But all six of Truman's players finished among the top three as freshman Justin Menolascino (Manchester, Mo./Chaminade), junior Nathan Artz (Kansas City, Mo./N. Kansas City), sophomore Erich Podzinski (Evergreen, Co.) and junior Allan Atkins (Hannibal, Mo.) all placed third in the 1-4 slots, respectively.

The No. 1 doubles team of Menolascino and Podzinski and the No. 3 doubles squad of Kidera and Rees also finished third.

The Bulldogs were ranked 24th in the last ITA Midwest regional rankings and finished the regular season with a 13-8 dual record, going 3-2 against MIAA opponents. They also finished the year with a nine-match win-streak and now wait to hear if they will earn a bid to their first NCAA tournament appearance since 1997.
