Twelve Bulldog Tennis Players Receive MIAA Honors

The MIAA announced its men's and women's tennis all-conference teams today and twelve Truman athletes received honors.

Senior Ben Smith (Fort Collins, Colo./Rocky Mountain) received the biggest award, earning the league's sportsmanship award for the second straight season. Smith was also named to the second-team at No. 2 doubles and was honorable mention at No. 2 singles.

Sophomore Erin Sadzewicz (Oaklawn, Ill./Plainfield) was the lone Bulldog to receive first-team honors. She was named to the women's first-team at No. 6 singles.

Second-team honors went to men's players freshman Niklas Stubbendorff (Jupiter, Fla./Jupiter Community) and sophomore Sean Cooper (Springfield, Mo./Parkview). Stubbendorff earned second-team honors at the No. 6 singles position and Cooper, along with Smith, was second-team at No. 2 doubles.

On the women's side, honorable mention honors went to sophomore Becky Dinsick (Plainfield, Ill./Plainfield) at No. 2 singles, junior Abigail Souders (Rosemount, Minn./Rosemount) at No. 3 singles, sophomore Kristine Grajo (Ballwin, Mo./Marquette) at No. 4 singles, and freshman Hannah Wittmer (Topeka, Kan./Washburn Rural) at No. 5 singles.

On the men's side, honorable mention honors were also received by Cooper at No. 4 singles, freshman Ryan Cope (Leawood, Kan./Shawnee Mission East) at No. 5 singles and No. 1 doubles, sophomore Tyler Wood (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge) at No. 1 doubles, junior Steve Jones (St. Louis/Oakville) at No. 3 doubles and sophomore Brad Martin (Leawood, Kan./Rockhurst) at No. 3 doubles.

The women's tennis squad ended its season last week with a 7-9 dual record for the year. The men's team earned a bid to the NCAA Tournament and will face Southwest Baptist in first-round action next Friday at noon in Bolivar, Mo.
