Women's Tennis Team Makes NCAA Tournament
Heads to Greeley, Colo., Site of First And Second
rounds
The Truman State University women's tennis team will be heading to Greeley, Colo., for first and second round games of the NCAA Division II tournament.
In 2001, the Bulldogs barely missed making the tournament for the first time in seven years.
Truman will face Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe Northwest Missouri in a first-round game on Friday, May 3. The host school, the University of Northern Colorado, will play Winona State University (Minn.) is the other first-round game.
The winners of the first-round matches will compete on Saturday, May 4, in the second-round game. The winner of that match will be one of 16 teams to advance to the championship tournament in Kansas City May 9-12, hosted by Rockhurst University.
Truman beat NWMS 5-4 this season, but lost 5-4 to UNC back on Mar. 1. The Bulldogs finished with a 16-2 dual record and were third in the MIAA tournament last week.
Making a return trip to the national tournament are No.1 singles player junior Allison Schuller (West Peoria, Ill.), junior Adri Atwell (Columbia, Ind.) at No. 3 singles, junior Meghan Konrad (Elmhurst, Ill./York) at No. 4 singles and senior Jessica McKinney (Belleville, Ill.) at No. 5 singles.
McKinney and Konrad helped score the 'Dogs' only two points at the NCAA tournament in 2000 as part of the winning No. 2 and No.3 doubles teams, respectively. McKinney also made the trip to nationals as a freshman in 1999.
Freshman Melissa Dudak (Chicago/Nazareth Academy) will fill the No. 2 singles spot, while junior Amanda Black (Oakville, Mo.) will play at No. 6 singles.
The tandem of McKinney and Dudak will play at No. 1 doubles, while Atwell and Konrad will be the No. 2 doubles team and Schuller and freshman Abigail Souders (Rosemount, Minn.) will compete in the No. 3 doubles slot.
