Senior Nathan Artz (Kansas City, Mo./North Kansas City) has been named to the Verizon Academic All-America At-Large Third-Team after completing his career with a 3.92 grade point average in physics at Truman State University. He became eligible for the honor after earning first-team all-district honors from Verizon last month.

He recently received the Dean's Recognition of Academic Excellence award, and was also named to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association commissioner's academic honor roll. Artz is also a two-time International Tennis Association scholar-athlete.

He completed an outstanding career, posting a four-year record of 65-56. Artz has been the No. 2 singles player the last three seasons, but has earned all-MIAA recognition each of his four seasons on the team.

This year, Artz was 14-12 in singles play and placed third at No. 3 doubles at the MIAA tournament to earn all-league status. Artz' highest finish in the MIAA was a second-place showing at No. 3 doubles as a freshman. He made his second trip to the NCAA tournament this season. Artz was also 13-15 doubles action this season.

The Truman men's tennis team completed the 2000-01 campaign by making its second consecutive trip to the NCAA tournament, losing to the top-ranked Drury University Panthers. The loss to Drury ended Truman's season at 10-9 overall.
