Men's Tennis Team Makes NCAA Division II Postseason Tournament

For the second straight year, the Truman men's tennis team has earned a bid to the NCAA Division II postseason tournament.

The Bulldogs encounter the No. 1 team in the country, Drury University, in their first-round match.

Play begins at 2 p.m. on Friday, May 4, at the Cooper Tennis Complex in Springfield, Mo.

The winner of the first match will face the winner of the Texas Wesleyan/Metropolitan State (Colo.) match in the second round.

Out of 48 teams that make the DII tournament, 20 are in the Midwest region, and there are five sites in the Midwest region playing host to first-round matches.

The Truman men completed the regular season with a 10-8 overall dual record and went 3-1 in Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association play.

Last season, the Bulldogs lost to Drury in the first-round of the NCAA tourney, 5-0.

The same 1-5 singles players return to the tournament this season as Justin Menolascino is back at the No. 1 singles spot, Nathan Artz is again at No. 2 singles, Erich Podzinski will fill the No. 3 slot, Allan Atkins returns to the No. 4 spot and George Kidera returns as the No. 5 player.

The No. 6 singles player could again be Adam Rees, or Ben Smith who placed second at No. 6 singles at the MIAA meet last weekend.
