Women's Tennis Team Edged by Northwest Missouri; Finishes Season at NCAA Regional Tournament

The Truman State University women's tennis team was edged by conference foe Northwest Missouri in the first round of the NCAA Division II North Central Region tournament by a 5-3 score in Greeley, Colo., today.

Northwest swept all three doubles matches to take a 3-0 lead in the match. Truman battled back to take three of the first four singles matches to pull within 4-3 of the Bearcats. Northwest finished the match with a victory from No. 6 singles player Raven Herner.

Truman faced Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association foe Northwest Missouri earlier this season, beating the Lady Bearcats, 5-4.

The Bulldogs finish with a 16-3 dual record and were third in the MIAA tournament last week.

Making a return trip to the national tournament were No.1 singles player junior Allison Schuller (West Peoria, Ill.), junior Adri Atwell (Columbia, Ind.) at No. 3 singles, junior Meghan Konrad (Elmhurst, Ill./York) at No. 4 singles and senior Jessica McKinney (Belleville, Ill.) at No. 5 singles.

McKinney and Konrad helped score the 'Dogs' only two points at the NCAA tournament in 2000 as part of the winning No. 2 and No.3 doubles teams, respectively. McKinney also made the trip to nationals as a freshman in 1999.
