Four Members of Truman Track & Field Squads to Advance to National Meet
Four members of the Truman State University men's & women's track & field teams will move on to the NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, to be held March 8-9 in Boston.
Two members of the women's team, seniors Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) and Karena Singleton (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) will head to Boston. On the men's side, junior Ben Rosario (St. Louis/SLUH) and freshman James Walton (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) will make the trip.
Williams' national qualifying time of 8.78 seconds in the 60-meter hurdles is currently ranked eighth in Division II. Singleton is ranked 12th in the triple jump, with a mark of 38'-3.25". Last weekend, Williams broke her own school record in the 60-meter hurdles with a conference championship-winning time of 8.85 seconds. Singleton's national qualifying mark is just one-quarter inch off of her school record jump set in 2000.
Walton made the national field and is currently ranked fourth with his school record and conference championship-winning long jump of 24'-5.75" last weekend, which beat the Truman mark of 24'-5", set in 1972 by Tom Geredine. Rosario's school record 5,000-meter run time of 14:27.34, which converts to 14:29.84 due to a difference in track size, ranks 10th. Rosario also set the school 3,000-meter indoor record this season.
It will be the first-ever trip to the NCAA Division II indoor meet for Rosario, Singleton and Walton. Williams will be making her third trip to the national indoor meet. She finished eighth last year in the 55-meter hurdles and did not make the final in her initial indoor appearance in 2000. Previously, at the NCAA indoor meet, the 55-meter hurdles were run before being replaced with the 60-meter version this year.
Following the indoor national championships meet, the outdoor track & field seasons for both the men and the women will begin the weekend of March 22-23 with the Central Missouri State Vernon Kennedy Decathlon/Heptathlon and the Augustana (Ill.) Early Spring Opener.
