Christina Winkler and Elizabeth Economon Named Athletes of the Week

Bulldog track runner Christina Winkler and softball player Elizabeth Economon were honored as athletes of the week today by the MIAA.

Winkler was the women's track athlete of the week after she won the 400-meter hurdles and finished third in the 100-meter hurdles at the Division II Challenge in Emporia, Kan. last weekend. She won the 400-meter hurdle race in a NCAA provisional time of 1:02.09 and finished the 100-meter hurdle race in 14.89, just missing a provisional mark. Winkler also ran a leg on the third-place 4x400 relay team that was one second off a provisional mark (3:53.00).

Economon was a Wilson/MIAA softball co-hitter of the week along with Washburn's Julie Blaufuss. She batted .611 during the week with a home run, six RBIs and six runs, leading the Bulldogs to a perfect 6-0 mark. Against Lincoln, she went 6-for-8 in the two games with two doubles, four RBIs and three runs scored. Against MIAA opponent Pittsburg State, she hit a solo home run in the first game and drove home another run in the nightcap. In the final two games against Missouri Southern, she was walked five times but still went 1-for-2 with two runs scored.
