Bulldog Women Track Finish Second At Knox Invitational
In their final tuneup before the conference meet, the Bulldogs women's track team finished second at the Knox Invitational on Saturday, finishing ahead of every team except Division I Western Illinois. Truman won eights events at the competition, the most of the 11 schools that participated in the meet.
Junior Christina Winkler (High Ridge, Mo./Northwest) was the lone Bulldog to win multiple events as she finished first in both the 200m and 55m hurdles. Her winning time in the 200m was 25.65 and her 55m hurdles mark was 8.33.
Truman dominated the running events, also winning the 400m, 800m, 1,500m, 3,000m and 5,000m races. Senior Candi Jones (Oskaloosa, Iowa/Oskaloosa) won the 400m race with a time of 59.05. Junior Candice Hoskins (Grandview, Mo./Grandview) was first in the 800m, finishing in 2:18.43. Freshman Lauren White (Lee's Summit, Mo./Lee's Summit) won her first collegiate race with a victory in the 1,500, finishing in a time of 4:52.01. In the 3,000m, freshman Meg Robertson (Dittmer, Mo./Northeast) ran a season-best time of 10:53.36 on the way to a win. Freshman Jacquie Faust (St. Louis/Cor Jesu Academy) won the 5,000m event in a time of 19:33.39.
In the field events, sophomore Lainie Bohnsack (Cape Girardeau, Mo./Central) was first in the high jump, clearing 5-0. Also in the field events, freshman Danielle Grimes (Birmingham, Ala./Jefferson City) set a NCAA provisional mark in the weight throw with a mark of 50-6.75, which was good for second-place.
Truman will look to defend its 2003 MIAA indoor title next week when the conference meet is held on Friday and Saturday in Joplin, Mo.
