Three Truman Athletes Earn MIAA Player of the Week Honors

Wilson/MIAA Softball Hitter of the Week: Leann Paul, 1B

Paul, a 5-foot-7 senior from Olathe, Kan., batted .381 with two homer and seven RBI as she helped the Bulldogs clinch at least a share of the MIAA regular season championship last week.

She was 4-for-7 in the doubleheader sweep of Northwest Missouri State Thursday (April 22). In game one, she had two RBI, including one in the four-run fourth which broke the game open as the Bulldogs won, 6-0. She accounted for both Truman runs in game two, singling and scoring in the first for an early 1-0 lead, then added a solo shot in the fourth as the 'Dogs held on for a 2-1 win and a share of the crown.

Paul had three RBI, two coming with a home run, in a 9-1 win over South Dakota State at the Minnesota State-Mankato America Legion Classic Saturday (April 24), and added an RBI-single in the first inning against No. 24 St. Cloud (Minn.) State.

Paul is a graduate of Olathe North High School.

MIAA Female Track Athlete of the Week: Christina Winkler

Winkler, a junior from High Ridge, Mo., improved her provisional qualifying time for nationals in the 400-meter hurdles while setting a school record during the Drake (Iowa) Relays last weekend.

She placed fourth in the combined University/College Division race (and was the best D-II performer) with a time of 59.08 seconds.

Winkler also helped Truman earn a provisional qualifying mark in the 4-by-400-meter relay of 3:46.82 to place third in the College Division. She also ran a leg of the sprint medley relay which was second in the College Division (4:02.58) and just missed bettering her provisional time in the 100-meter hurdles (14.11).

She is a graduate of House Springs (Mo.)-Northwest High School.

MIAA Male Track Athlete of the Week: Alan Heincker

Heincker, a senior from Florissant, Mo., placed fifth in the Invitational 10,000 meters at the Drake (Iowa) Relays with a provisional qualifying time.

He finished behind two runners from Colorado State and a third from Marquette (Wis.), with a time of 30:17.20 -- 12th best in Division II this season.

He is a graduate of McCluer North High School.
