Truman Indoor Track Teams Compete At Iowa Open

The Truman State University men's and women's track and field teams competed on Saturday (Jan. 15) at the University of Iowa Open at Iowa City, Iowa. The Truman women collected six first-place finishes on the day, while the men's team was first in four events.

On the women's side, senior Dafros Mudyirwa (Westview Kodoma, Zimbabwe/Jameson) won the 60-meter dash with a time of 8.15 seconds. Senior Molly Kandlbinder (Washington, Mo./St. Francis Borgia) took first in the 400 meter dash with a time of 1:00.12. Junior Kristi Morton (Mexico, Mo.) cleared 3.05 meters in the pole vault to take first place, while sophomore Karena Singleton (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood/Flossmoor) leaped 10.70 meters for the top spot in the triple jump. Natasha Carter won the weight throw with a toss of 15.22 meters and the women's 4x400 meter relay squad also tallied a first place finish, winning with a time of 4:09.46.

In men's action, junior Danny McDonald (Hermann, Mo.) ran a time of 1:22.79 to win the 600-meter dash and sophomore Ben Rosario (St. Louis/University HS) finished first in the 3,000 meters with a time of 8:42.35. Senior Chad Froelker (Owensville, Mo.) took first in the high jump, clearing 1.98 meters. Sophomore Matt Helbig (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) tied for first in the 800 meter run with a time of 1:59.13.

It was the second meet of the season for both teams, but their first of the new year. Both will return to action on Jan. 21-22 at Iowa State University.
