Luebbering Sets School Mark In 5,000 Meters At Mule Relays

The Truman State University women's indoor track and field team competed on Friday at the Mule Relays on the campus of Central Missouri State University in Warrensburg, Mo. The women took first place in five events at the CMSU Multipurpose Building.

Truman sophomore Beth Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) set a new school record in the 5,000-meter run on Friday, running a time of 17:33.30 to take first place in the event. Luebbering's time also smashed the Multipurpose Building record by more than 10 seconds. The previous mark was 17:43.80, set in 1997. Her time also improved on her previous NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. Sophomore Emily Komiskey (Galena, Ill./Dubuque Walhert) was second in the 5,000 meters with a time of 18:23.53.

Sophomore Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) improved on her provisional mark in the 55-meter hurdles, winning the event in 8.25 seconds. Senior Dafros Mudyirwa (Westview Kadoma, Zimbabwe/Jameson) won the long jump with a leap of 18'-2.5". Junior Natasha Carter (Chicago/South Shore Academy) took the top spot in the weight throw with a mark of 54'-11.5". The women's two-mile relay team of Lauren Dorsey (Hannibal, Mo./Northwest Missouri), Brandy Leffler (Gibbs, Mo./Brashear), Jody Shanks (Liberty, Mo.) and Leah Zidon (Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar) took first with a time of 9:49.0.

The Truman women will return to Warrensburg this Saturday for the CMSU Classic.
