Track & Field Teams Compete at Hawkeye Open

The Truman State University men's and women's track and field teams competed Saturday at the University of Iowa Hawkeye Open.

In women's action, junior Karena Singleton (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) brought home a first-place finish in the triple jump with a leap of 35'-7.75". On the men's side, junior Dave Mayhew (Prior Lake, Minn./Academy of Holy Angels) had the top finish, also taking first with a time of 8.36 seconds in the 60-meter high hurdles.

Elsewhere on the women's side, senior Kristi Morton (Mexico, Mo.) placed second in the pole vault with a mark of 10'-6". Junior Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) captured third-place finishes in both the 60-meter low hurdles (9.13 seconds) and 200-meter dash (27.07 seconds). Freshman Sonya Yamnitz (Hallsville, Mo./Jefferson City Helias) was third in the mile with a time of 5:26.25 and Singleton added a fourth-place finish in the 200 meters as the women went 3-4-5 in that race.

In addition to Mayhew's top finish, the men got fourth-place performances from juniors Jake Kingery (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City, Monroe Cmty) in the high jump and Danny McDonald (Hermann, Mo.) in the 600-meter dash. Kingery high-jumped 6'-4" and McDonald turned in a clocking of 1:23.11 in his 600-meter event. Freshman Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) captured fifth in both the 60-meter dash (6.99 seconds) and 200-meter dash (22.88 seconds).

Both of Truman's indoor track and field teams will return to the state of Iowa this Friday and Saturday for the Iowa State Open in Ames. Here are Truman's complete results from the University of Iowa Hawkeye Open:
