Track & Field Teams Open Indoor Season at Iowa State

The Truman State University men's and women's track and field squads opened the indoor season on Saturday at the Cyclone Holiday Classic in Ames, Iowa.

Two Bulldog women turned in NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks, including senior Kristi Morton (Mexico, Mo.) in the pole vault and junior Karena Singleton (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) in the triple jump. Morton finished third in the pole vault with a mark of 3.35 meters, or 10'-11.75". Singleton was second in the triple jump with a mark of 11.41 meters, or 37'-5.25".

On the men's side, freshman Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) had two of the top finishes for Truman. He placed fourth in the 200-meter dash with a clocking of 21.54 seconds, and also finished the 60-meter dash in 6.73 seconds, good enough for sixth.

Senior Ryan Easley (Elmer, Mo./LaPlata) brought home fifth in the weight throw with a toss of 50'-1.25".

In the women's 400-meter dash, Truman collected a 1-2 finish, as junior Kasye Hahn (St. Louis/Horton Watkins) and freshman Jackie McDuffey (Pineville, Mo./McDonald County) turned in times of 58.04 and 59.97 seconds, respectively. Hahn also took second in the 200-meter dash (26.14 seconds) and McDuffey was fourth in the 60-meter hurdles (9.27).

The women's 4x400-meter relay team of freshmen Candi Jones (Oskaloosa, Iowa), Bridget Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias), Sonya Yamnitz (Hallsville, Mo./Helias) and Sara Pendzick (Canfield, Ohio) finished second in 4:08.55.

Junior Beth Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) was second in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 10:25.28. Also in the 3,000, sophomore Leah Zidon (Bondurant, Iowa/Bondurant-Farrar) competed unattached and finished fourth in 10:43.18.

In the 800-meter run, Jones finished third in 2:20.66, while Bridget Luebbering placed third in the mile with a tim e of 5:18.84.

Both Bulldog teams will be off until Jan. 13, when they head to Iowa City, Iowa for the Hawkeye Open.
