Men's Track Team Competes at Smith-Barney Invitational

The Truman State University men's track and field team traveled to Indianapolis over the weekend for Saturday's Smith Barney Invitational, hosted by Butler University.

Senior Ryan Easley (Elmer, Mo./LaPlata) earned an NCAA Division II provisional qualifiying mark in the weight throw with a carer-best heave of 52'-7.25", a distance that earned him fifth place in that event. He was the highest finishing non-Division I competitor in the weight throw.

Freshman Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) placed second in the 200-meter dash with a time of 21.86 seconds. He also was seventh in the 60-meter dash (7.03 seconds) and had a leg on the Bulldogs' sixth-place finishing 4x400-meter relay squad. Other members of the relay were freshman Mike Pope (West Burlington, Iowa) and juniors Danny McDonald (Hermann, Mo.) and Nolan White (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge).

McDonald also collected a seventh-place finish in the 400-meter dash, with a clocking of 49.68 seconds.

Junior Matt Helbig (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) finished the 800-meter run in 1:55.72, good enough for eighth place overall.

Freshman Alfonso Pugh (Galesburg, Ill.) leaped 21'-6.75" to place sixth in the long jump. Sophomore Pat Boyle (St. Charles, Mo.) and freshman Alan Heincker (Dittmer, Mo./Grandview) had 11th place finishes in the 3,000 meters and 5,000 meters, respectively.

Truman will be back in action this Friday in Iowa City, Iowa, for the University of Iowa Triangular. Along with Truman and Iowa, Western Michigan University will also be competing.
