Truman Men's Track & Field Results From MIAA Championships
Twelve Bulldogs came away with all-conference honors by finishing among the top six in their respective events at the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association Indoor Track and Field Championships Feb. 23-24. Junior Danny McDonald (Hermann, Mo.) was the only conference champion for the Truman men's team, placing first in the 600-yard run (1:11.56).
As a team, the Bulldogs placed fifth overall with 48 points, while Central Missouri won the meet with 194.
Freshman Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) finished second in the 200-meter dash (21.88) and was third in the 55-meter dash, setting a new provisional qualifying time of 6.37. Two other third-place finishes were turned in by junior Matt Helbig (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) (1:55.93) in the 800-meter run and senior Ryan Easley (Elmer, Mo./LaPlata) in the weight throw (50'07.50").
An additional four Bulldogs provisionally qualified for the NCAA Division II Championships as the mile relay team of junior Jake Kingery (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe), junior Nolan White (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge), junior David Mayhew (Prior Lake, Minn./Holy Angels) and McDonald finished fourth overall with a time of 3:20.63.
Other fourth-place finishes were garnered by junior Andy Doering (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) in the 5,000-meter run and freshman Alfonso Pugh (Galesburg, Ill.) in the long jump (22'09.25"). Along with Dzingai and McDonald, Pugh was the only other Bulldog to earn two top six finishes after also placing sixth in the 200-meter dash (22.93).
The two-mile relay team of senior Scott Henderson (Belvidere, Ill.), freshman Mike Brower (Arlington Heights, Ill./John Hersey), freshman Mike Amador (Pleasant Valley, Mo./St. Pius X) and sophomore Pat Boyle (St. Charles, Mo.) rounds out the group of 12 with a sixth-place finish (8:15.08).
