Truman Results From the Outdoor Mule Relays

 

The Truman State University women's track & field team placed first in six events and the Bulldog men's team won three at the 2001 outdoor Mule Relays in Warrensburg, Mo.

On the women's side, Truman won both of the hurdling events, the 100-meter and 400-meter hurdles. In the 100s, junior Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) captured her fourth 100-meter hurdles crown of the year in winning with a meet record time of 14.41 seconds. Freshman Sara Jessen (Brookfield, Mo.), who was fourth in the 100-meter hurdles, won the 400-meter variety with a time of 1:03.95.

The Bulldogs were also on top in several of the distance events, including the 1500-meter run where senior Jody Shanks (Liberty, Mo.) brought home first place in 4:53.4. Junior Beth Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) won the 3000-meter run in 10:45.23 and sophomore Jennifer Tesmer (Harrisonville, Mo.) finished first in the 10,000 meters with a time of 38:57.4.

Sophomore Jill Lowry (Jefferson City, Mo.) was the winner in the 200-meter dash, finishing in 25.10 seconds to lead a group of four Bulldogs in the top five. Truman also had two of the top three runners in the 400-meter dash.

In the field, senior Kristi Morton (Mexico, Mo.) set a meet record with a first-place pole vault of 11'-7.75" and improved her previous NCAA Division II provisional in the event.

The women's 4x100-meter relay team of Lowry, Williams, junior Karena Singleton (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) and junior Jamille Curry (Chicago/Morgan Park) also improved their previous NCAA provisional time by turning in a second-place clocking of 47.86 seconds.

In men's action, freshman Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) collected his fourth 200-meter dash win of the outdoor campaign with a time of 21.15 seconds, a meet record.

Junior Andy Doering (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) turned in another Bulldog win in the 5000-meter run with a time of 15:18.10.

And in the javelin, senior Ryan Easley (Elmer, Mo./LaPlata) took first place with a career-best throw of 193'-2".

Led by senior Danny McDonald (Hermann, Mo.), who placed second in the 400-meters, Truman captured three of the top eight spots in the 400.

Sophomore Brian McQueary (St. Louis/St. Mary's)'s second place finish in the 3000-meter steeplechase led a group of three ‘Dogs in the top five in that event. Junior Ben Rosario (St. Louis/SLUH) made it a 1-2 finish in the 5000-meter run as he brought home second behind Doering.

Other Bulldog men's second place finishes were turned in by Matt Helbig (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) in the 1500 meters, freshman Alan Heincker (Dittmer, Mo./Grandview) in the 10,000 meters, sophomore Jake Kingery (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe) in the javelin and the men’s 4x100-meter relay team of Nolan White (Columbia, Mo./Rock Bridge), Dzingai, Mike Pope (West Burlington, Iowa) and Alfonso Pugh (Galesburg, Ill.).

Up next, the Truman men will compete in the Drake Relays in Des Moines, Iowa on Friday and Saturday (April 27-28) and the MIAA Decathlon on April 29-30. The women have the Drake Relays, Missouri-Kansas City Invitational (April 28) and the MIAA Heptathlon (April 29-30) on the docket in the near future.
