Track & field Teams Open Indoor Season at Iowa State

The Truman State University men's and women's track & field teams opened their indoor seasons on Friday at the Iowa State Holiday Classic.

Senior Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) earned an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the 60-meter hurdles and broke her own school record with a time of 8.86 seconds that landed her in second place. Williams' previous school mark of 8.92 seconds was set last year.

Junior Jill Lowry (Jefferson City, Mo.) collected a third-place finish in the 200-meter dash and tied for fifth in the 60-meter dash. Lowry's time in the 60 (7.78 seconds) was just one-hundredth of a second off of the school record and two-hundredths of a second short of the NCAA Division II provisional qualifying time. Lowry's third-place clocking of 25.53 seconds in the 200 was 0.13 seconds short of the school mark.

Freshman Karla Jordan (Liberty, Mo.) had one of two Bulldog first-place finishes on the day as she leaped 11.20 meters in the triple jump to earn first place by more than half a meter.

The other first-place showing went to the women's 4x400-meter relay team of Lowry, Sara Jessen (Brookfield, Mo.), Jamille Curry (Chicago/Morgan Park) and Kasye Hahn (St. Louis/Ladue Horton-Watkins), which finished in 3:56.03, more than seven seconds ahead of the second-place team.

Senior Beth Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) came in second in the 3,000-meter run, logging a time of 10:18.40.

In men's action, sophomore Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) brought home second and third-place marks in the 200- and 60-meter dashes, respectively. His 60-meter time of 6.94 seconds was six-hundredths of a second off of the NCAA Division II provisional pace. He finished the 200 meters in 21.75 seconds.

Senior Nick Blackburn (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) placed third in the mile run with a time of 4:19.78, while sophomore Aaron Decker (Peru, Neb./Auburn) tied for third place in the pole vault by clearing 4.15 meters.

In the long jump, a pair of Truman jumpers made the top five, including freshman James Walton (Hinsdale, Ill./Hinsdale South) who was fourth with a leap of 7.02 meters. Sophomore Alfonso Pugh (Galesburg, Ill.) leaped 6.91 meters for fifth place.

The Bulldog women will be back in action on Jan. 12 at the University of Iowa Open. The men will see their next action in Iowa City a week later.
