Men's Track & Field Team Competes at Lee Calhoun Memorial
Kingery Earns Provisional at D-II Challenge
The Truman State University men's track & field team competed on Saturday at the Lee Calhoun Memorial, co-hosted by Western Illinois University and Monmouth University (Ill.). The Bulldog men had five top-three finishes at the meet.
Additionally, junior Jake Kingery (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe) headed west, rather than east, and competed in the decathlon at the Division II Challenge in Emporia, Kan. Kingery finished third with 6,639 points, a tally that was good enough for an NCAA Division II provisional qualiying mark.
At the Lee Calhoun Memorial, senior Andy Doering (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) turned in the team's lone first-place finish as he won the 5,000-meter run in 14:54.67.
Sophomore Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) had a pair of second-place showings in the 100- and 200-meter dashes. His time in the 100 was 10.71 seconds, while he finished the 200 in 21.31 seconds.
Third-place finishes went to junior Pat Boyle (St. Charles, Mo.) in the 3,000-meter steeplechase and sophomore Phil Andreas (Wildwood, Mo./Lafayette) in the pole vault.
Up next, the Truman men's and women's teams will venture to Warrensburg, Mo. this Friday (April 19), for the Mule Relays.
