Men's Track & Field Results from Iowa State Open

The Truman State University men's distance medley relay team collected the highest finish on the weekend for the Bulldog men, placing second at the Iowa State Open.

The team of junior Matt Helbig (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit), freshman Walter Washington (St. Louis/Webster Groves), junior Mike Nelson (Fenton, Mo./Northwest) and senior Nick Blackburn (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) finished the event in 10:15.22 seconds for second place behind only Central Missouri State.

Blackburn also turned in a career-best time in the mile when he finished fifth in 4:13.94. The clocking was just over a half-second from an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark.

Senior Andy Doering (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) finished sixth in the 3,000-meter run with a time of 8:41.57. Senior Ben Rosario (St. Louis/SLUH) placed sixth in the 5,000-meter run, finishing in 14:52.05, like Blackburn narrowly missing a provisional qualification.

In the 200-meter dash, sophomore Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) finished seventh in 21.81 seconds.

The 'Dogs will be back in action on Friday at Augustana (Ill.).
