Bulldog Men's Track & Field Competes at Washington University Open
The Truman State University men's track & field team will compete this Saturday (April 13) at the 13th annual Lee Calhoun Invitational in Monmouth, Ill., co-hosted by Monmouth College and Western Illinois University.
This past Saturday (April 6), the Bulldog men took part in the Washington University Open in St. Louis. The Bulldogs had four top-three finishes at the meet, the team's third of the outdoor campaign.
Sophomore Brian Dzingai (Harare, Zimbabwe/St. George's) placed first in the 200-meter dash and second in the 100 meters. Dzingai's time of 21.79 seconds in the 200 was just 24 hundredths of a second from being an NCAA Division II provisional qualification. Both the 100 and 200, as well as the 110-meter hurdles, were events slowed somewhat by winds.
In the 800-meter run, junior Matt Helbig (Fenton, Mo./Rockwood Summit) placed second in a time of 1:55.07. Senior Nick Blackburn (St. Charles, Mo./Francis Howell) was third in 9:35.54, followed closely by freshman Andy Person (Wildwood, Mo./Ladue) in fourth place and freshman Ryan French (Cedar Rapids, Iowa/Linn-Marr) in seventh.
Freshman Walter Washington (St. Louis/Webster Groves) tallied a sixth-place clocking of 49.24 seconds in the 400-meter dash.
Senior Andy Doering (Florissant, Mo./McCluer North) posted a seven-place showing in the 1,500-meter run, while junior Jake Kingery (Monroe, Iowa/Prairie City-Monroe) logged seventh-place finishes in both the 110-meter hurdles and high jump.
