Women's Track & Field Team Places Second at Division II Challenge

The Truman State University women's track & field team placed second out of 16 teams on Saturday at the Division II Challenge, hosted by Emporia State University (Kan.). The Bulldog women collected three first-place finishes and scored 93 points for the meet. North Dakota State won the meet with 105 points, while Emporia State was third with 77.

Senior Kasye Hahn (St. Louis/Ladue) was one of the Bulldogs' three first-place finishers as she won the 400-meter dash in a personal best time of 56.26 seconds. That time also gives Hahn an NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark in the event.

Senior all-America hurdler Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) earned her 11th consecutive win in the 100-meter high hurdles, dating back to last season and excluding the 2001 NCAA Division II Outdoor Championships. She finished in 14.12 seconds, a mark that improves her previously established NCAA provisional mark.

In the 3,000-meter steeplechase, the Bulldogs posted another victory as sophomore Sonya Yamnitz (Hallsville, Mo./Helias) completed the course in 11:34.62.

Like Williams in the 100-meter hurdles, freshman Christina Winkler (High Ridge, Mo./Northwest) bettered her already established provisional in the 400-meter variety. Winkler placed second in the event in 1:02.41.

Two more new provisionals were added, bringing the Bulldogs' number of provisional qualifications to seven. Senior Karena Singleton (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) placed third and earned a provisional spot in the triple jump with a mark of 11.64 meters or 38'-2.25". Truman's 4x400-meter relay, which includes Hahn and Winkler along with senior Jamille Curry (Chicago, Ill./Morgan Park) and sophomore Candi Jones (Oskaloosa, Iowa) placed second in 3:50.77, another provisional. Hahn and Curry are two-time all-Americas in the 4x400, and Jones captured her first all-America honor last year.

Up next, the Bulldog men's and women's track & field teams will head to Warrensburg, Mo. this Friday (April 19) for the Mule Relays.
