Two More Bulldogs Earn NCAA Division II Provisional Qualifying marks

Two members of the Truman State University women's track & field team earned NCAA Division II provisional qualifying marks this weekend at the Iowa State Open.

Senior Beth Luebbbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) finished the 5,000-meter run in 17:49.71 and placed fifth in the event at Friday and Saturday's meet in Ames. Her time was about 20 seconds under the time needed (18:01.90) to provisionally qualify.

In the triple jump, senior Karena Singleton (Glenwood, Ill./Homewood-Flossmoor) leaped 38'-2.75" to earn a provisional mark. The jump was good enough for third place in the event.

Luebbering and Singleton join fellow senior Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) as the Bulldogs' provisional qualifiers for the 2002 NCAA Division II Indoor Championships, which are set for March 8-9 in Boston. Williams earned a provisional in the 60-meter hurdles in the first meet of the 2001-02 season.

Another fifth-place finish was collected by Bulldog junior Cammie Ewing (Hannibal, Mo.) who finished the 1,000-meter run in 3:09.72.

Truman's 4x400-meter and distance medley relay teams captured fourth-place showings at Iowa State. The 4x400-meter squad of seniors Kasye Hahn (St. Louis/Horton-Watkins) and Jamille Curry (Chicago/Morgan Park) and sophomores Sara Jessen (Brookfield, Mo.) and Candi Jones (Oskaloosa, Iowa) finished fourth in 3:55.57. In the distance medley, freshmen Dani Rawlings (Fargo, N.D./Fargo South) and Candice Hoskins (Grandview, Mo.) along with Ewing and sophomore Sonya Yamnitz (Hallsville, Mo./Helias) finished in 12:35.16, also good enough for fourth.

The Bulldogs are slated to return to action this Friday in a triangular with Augustana (Ill.) and Wartburg (Iowa) in Rock Island, Ill.
