Truman Women's Track & Field Team Heads to MIAA Championships This Weekend

The Truman State University women's track & field team will look for its fourth consecutive top-two finish on Friday and Saturday at the MIAA Championships in Joplin.

The Bulldogs are coming off a first-place finish over the weekend at the Knox College Invitational in Galesburg, Ill. Five Truman women logged first-place showings as the Bulldogs tallied 171.5 points in the 16-team meet.

Senior Megan Williams (Columbia, Mo./Hickman) highlighted the Bulldogs' top finishers, as she ran the 55-meter hurdles in 8.21 seconds to capture first place. That time equates to 8.78 seconds in the 60-meter variety, which improves her NCAA Division II provisional qualifying mark. Williams' previously had run the 60-meter hurdles in 8.86 seconds.

Seniors Kasye Hahn (St. Louis/Ladue) and Emily Komiskey (Galena, Ill./Dubuque Wahlert) also had first-place marks in the 400- and 1,500-meter events, respectively. Hahn won the 400 in 58.27 seconds, while Komiskey ran the 1,500 meters in 4:50.80. Bulldog runners occupied each of the top five spots in the 1,500 meters.

Juniors Suzanne Schmidt (Omaha, Neb./Elkhorn) and Jill Lowry (Jefferson City, Mo.) brought home Truman's remaining first-place showings. Schmidt won the 3,000-meters in 10:49.10, while Lowry was first to the line in the 200-meter dash with a time of 26.09 seconds.

Second-place finishes went to Lowry in the 60-meter dash, Hahn in the 200, freshman Candice Hoskins (Grandview, Mo.) in the 800, senior Beth Luebbering (St. Thomas, Mo./Helias) in the 1,500, junior Alisha Smyth (Fairbanks, Alaska/Lathrop) in the 3,000 and freshman Karla Jordan (Liberty, Mo.) in the triple jump.
