Five Bulldogs Named to All-MIAA Volleyball Squad; Eggering Named League's Coach of the Year
A week after completing their run to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championship, the Truman State University volleyball Bulldogs had five players and their coach named to the all-MIAA team, the conference announced today.
Head coach Becky Eggering, who led the Bulldogs to their 11th consecutive 20-win season and first ever MIAA championship, was named the conference coach of the year by her peers. She has guided Truman to a 28-5 record, including a program-best 15-1 conference mark to tie for the MIAA title. The Bulldogs advanced back to the postseason for the first time since 1994, and are currently one of three conference teams involved in the South Central Regional. The team also established school records for consecutive wins (20) and consecutive MIAA wins (26, dating back to last year).
Two Bulldogs were named to the first-team, including sophomore setter Monica Marlowe (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora), who was one of three repeat selections to the first team. Marlowe is averaging a team-best 10.71 assists and 2.93 digs per game for the team, which is hitting .240 and averaging 15.38 kills per game. She ranks fourth in the MIAA in assists.
Marlowe was joined on the first team by junior middle hitter Eliza Hoerner (Augusta, Mo./University of Colorado-Colorado Springs). In her first season with the Bulldogs, Hoerner leads the team and ranks fifth in the MIAA in kills (3.46 per game). She ranks second in the conference and is the team leader in hitting percentage (.316). She also ranks second on the squad in blocking, at 0.88 blocks a game.
Junior middle hitter Cassy Felkerson (Salem, Mo.) was named to the second team. She currently ranks seventh in the MIAA in blocking at 1.03 per game, and is second on the team in kills (2.93 p/g) and hitting (.289). She has a team-high 20 matches this season with double-digit kills.
Junior right side hitter Jenny Glenn (Granby, Colo./Middle Park) and senior outside hitter Janelle Zehr (Deer Creek, Ill./Mackinaw) were honorable mention selections. Glenn repeats as an honorable mention choice, having also captured the honor in 1999. Zehr wraps up her career as a four-time all-conference pick.
Truman continues its season on Thursday in Florence, Ala., when it takes
on MIAA foe Missouri Western in a 4 p.m. South Central Regional first-round
