Shelby Orthwerth and Alan Heincker Earn Player of the Week Honors

Shelby Ortwerth was named the Wilson/MIAA Volleyball Hitter of the Week and Alan Heincker earned MIAA runner of the week honors after both put up impressive performance last week.

Ortwerth averaged 5.27 kills and 4.55 digs a game while hitting .321 in three Bulldog victories. Against Northwest Missouri, she hit .382 (17-4-34) with 19 digs, one block assist and one ace. She had 12 kills and 18 digs against 11th-ranked Central Missouri and also contributed three aces and four blocks. In the final game of the week, she recorded a career-high 29 kills, 10th-most at Truman since 1991. She hit .410 in that game and also had 13 digs.

Alan Heincker ran in the Notre Dame Invitational last Friday in a field that included four nationally ranked Division I schools. Heincker stepped up to the challenge with a 26th place finish and a season-best time of 25:18 on the 8000m course. He was the top finisher among non-Division I schools at the meet in which Truman place 13th overall and was second among non-Division I schools.

The award was the first for Shelby Ortwerth in her career while Heincker won the honor for the second time this season.
