Bulldogs Volleyball Sweep Conference Player of the Week Honors
Two Truman State University volleyball players earned player of the week honors today after the Bulldogs swept a pair of matches last weekend against MIAA foes Missouri Southern and Pittsburg State.
The Wilson/MIAA Hitter of the Week is Jessica Sears (Colchester, Ill./Colchester). The sophomore hit .375 for the week with 21 kills and six errors in 40 attempts. She was even better defensively, averaging 4.33 digs and 1.00 blocks a game. On Friday evening against Missouri Southern, she had eight kills and just two errors in 11 attempts (.545 hitting percentage) while also recording 13 digs and two blocks. The following day against Pittsburg State, Sears had a double-double with 13 kills and 13 digs. She hit .310 for that match and had three service aces and four block assists.
The player of the week award is the first for Sears who was last year's MIAA Freshman of the Year. On the season, she is averaging 3.09 kills and 2.85 digs a game and leads the team with 11 service aces.
The Wilson/MIAA Setter of the Week is Monica Marlowe (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora). The senior setter averaged 14.00 and 6.00 digs a game and helped Truman hit .253 in its two matches last week. Marlowe recorded 46 assists and had 12 digs in the match against Missouri Southern. She also had two kills in three attempts in that contest. Against Pittsburg State, she had 24 digs, just one shy of a career-high, with 15 of those coming in the deciding third game. She also had 38 assists and four kills against the Gorillas.
Marlowe has now been named conference setter of the week 13 times during her career, earning four honors during each of her first three seasons. She leads the MIAA this season with 12.16 assists a game and is second on the team with 3.59 digs a game.
Truman, ranked 17th in the country, is 6-4 on the season and 2-0 in league action. The Bulldogs will face Quincy University at Pershing Arena at 7 p.m. on Tuesday night in a non-conference battle.
