Truman Sweeps Competition In Arkansas

The third-ranked Bulldog volleyball team cruised through the Henderson State (Ark.) tournament over the weekend picking up four wins to improve their record to 22-0 on the season.

Sarah Shearman and Jessica Sears were named to the six-member all-tournament team at the conclusion of the event.

After defeated Drury (Mo.) and the host school Henderson State on Friday, Truman swept a pair of regional matches by 3-0 scores.

In the first win of the day against Harding (Ark.), sophomore Sarah Shearman (Manchester, Mo./Luthern South) and senior Jessica Sears (Colchester, Ill./Colchester) each had 14 kills en route to the victory. Shearman hit .560 in the match. Senior Rebecca Knefelkamp (Oakville, Mo./Nerinx Hall) also led the team with 19 assists and 14 digs. Truman won the matches by scores of 30-16, 30-20 and 30-19

The Bulldogs ended the tournament with Southern Arkansas and won by scores of 30-19, 30-21 and 30-12. Freshman Caroline Clark (Springfield, Ill/Pleasant Plains) hit .476 with 12 kills to pace the Bulldogs. Sophomore setter Christine Wagener (Ballwin, Mo./Parkway West) had 41 assists, while Sears, who was at the Libero position, had 14 digs.

Truman has a home match against Quincy (Ill.) University on Tuesday night in Pershing Arena at 7:00 p.m. Following the match, the Bulldogs will hit the road to the state of Kansas for a pair of conference matches against Emporia State on Friday and Washburn on Saturday.
