Truman Volleyball Has Little Trouble With Missouri Western In 3-0 Win
The Bulldog volleyball team (26-0, 12-0 MIAA), ranked third in the country, needed just over an hour to knock off its 26th-straight opponent and tie a school record for consecutive wins. Truman defeated Missouri Western on Friday night at Pershing Arena by scores of 30-8, 30-26, 30-19.
Truman dominated the match from game one, a game in which they held the Griffons to single-digit points. Truman hit .563 in that opening game and held the Griffons to a .000 mark. The Bulldogs trailed just once the entire night, early on in the second game.
The Bulldogs ended the match with a .359 hitting percentage, 58 kills and 53 digs. Missouri Western hit .169 in the match with 38 kills and 42 digs. The lone category the Griffons led in was blocks in which they had a 7-2 advantage.
Sarah Shearman led the Bulldogs with a double-double of 17 kills and 10 digs. Kelsey Wackerman was also in double-figure kills with 11. Micaela Walter had seven kills and Jessica Sears added eight. Those two players both hit over .500 and had no errors on the night. Sears had a team-high 11 digs in the game and Rebecca Knefelkamp paced the squad with 20 assists.
Missouri Western was led by Marian Broderick with 12 kills. Therese Hand had a team-high 19 assists and Lauren Kracl led the blocking with four block assists. No Griffin had more than seven digs in the match.
Truman continues its Homecoming Weekend tomorrow afternoon with a 5 p.m. contest against Northwest Missouri.
