Truman Volleyball Team Signs Three, Adds Transfer
Head volleyball coach Becky Eggering announced today that four players will join the Truman State University volleyball team next fall.
Three high school seniors, Jenna Buckner, Sarah Bunch and Rachael Shedd, have signed with the Bulldogs who also added a transfer, Eliza Hoerner.
Buckner, a 5-11 outside hitter, attended Quincy Senior High School in Quincy, Ill. She was team MVP and won the squad's offensive player, defensive player and ace server awards. Buckner also earned special mention all-state from the Chicago Tribune and second-team all-state honors from the Champaign Gazette. She was an all-conference performer and earned all-tournament honors at the state tourney after helping her team to the state finals in 1999.
Bunch is a 5-10 middle/outside hitter from Rogersville, Mo. She was a three-time, first-team all-conference selection and an all-district performer in 1997 and 1999. Bunch also eared all-regional honors in 1999 and helped her high school team with the district title. In club volleyball, Bunch's squad was regional champion.
Shedd is a 5-10 setter from Westside High School in Omaha, Neb., where she was an all-metro and honorable mention all-state performer. Shedd was also a Who's Who Sport All-Star and an academic all-state selection. She helped her club team win the Great Plains regional championship
Hoerner, who is from Augusta, Mo., played two seasons at the University of Colorado at Colorado Springs (NCAA Division II), where she totalled 668 career kills, including 433 (4.12 per game) in her sophomore season, the fourth-highest single-season total in school history. This past season, she finished second in the Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference in kills and sixth in hitting percentage (.270) while leading the Mountain Lions in kills, digs (299 total, 2.85 per game) and blocks (69 total). She was a second-team all-conference pick this past season after earning honorable mention all-league honors as a freshman.
The 5-11 Hoerner was a first-team all-state selection as a senior at Washington Senior High School after leading her team in kills and blocks and earning team MVP honors.
The Truman Bulldogs finished the 1999 season with a 23-9 overall record and took second place in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics association with the program's best-ever conference record of 14-2.
