Volleyball Squad Adds A Pair Of Players To Roster
Truman head volleyball coach Becky Eggering has announced the addition of two players for the 2000 volleyball season. Current high school seniors Rebekah Wedick and Carrie Ippensen have signed national letters-of-intent to join the volleyball Bulldogs and will attend Truman this fall.
Wedick is a 6-0 middle hitter from Willow Springs High School in Willow Springs, Mo. She has been a first-team all-conference and all-district selection for each of her four years of high school and has been named district MVP in each of the past two seasons. Wedick is a three-time MVP of her high school team and has received the squad's Most Kills Award in each year of her high school career. As a senior, she posted 384 kills (5.4 per game) and had a .483 attack percentage as Willow Springs finished 27-5. In the Missouri State High School volleyball records book, Wedick will rank fifth in career kills (1,123), third in career attack percentage (.352) and seventh in career attempts (2,238). Her 384 kills in 1999 will place her 11th on the single-season kills list -- her 1998 total of 366 ranks her 13th on the same list -- and her .483 attack percentage will have her fourth on that single-season chart.
Ippensen, the sister of current Bulldog all-conference performer Brenda Ippensen, is a 5-7 1/2 outside hitter from Quincy (Ill.) Senior High School where she has been a three-year starter. A two-time all-conference honoree, Ippensen received the Best Defensive Player Award for QHS and is a two-time, second-team all-Quincy Herald-Whig selection and has also received honorable mention on the newspaper's all-star squad once.
Ippensen and Wedick join other new roster additions Jenna Buckner, Sarah Bunch, Rachael Shedd and transfer Eliza Hoerner on the Truman volleyball squad, which heads toward the 2000 campaign in search of its 11th consecutive 20-win season. The 'Dogs went 23-9 overall in 1999, including a program-best 14-2 record in the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. The 2000 season will be Eggering's fourth of her career and at the helm of the Bulldogs. She has a career record of 66-37 (.641).
