Truman Volleyball Senior Picked For All-American Farm Team

Janelle Zehr (Deer Creek, Ill./Mackinaw), who will be a senior on the Truman volleyball team this fall, has been named a second-team selection on the All-American Farm Team sponsored by Dodge trucks and Successful Farming magazine.

As a junior in 1999, Zehr was a first-team All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association choice and became just the fifth player in Truman history to be named to the American Volleyball Coaches Association All-South Central Region team. She finished second in the MIAA in kills (4.02 per game), tied for fifth in hitting percentage (.288) and 10th in both service aces (0.33 per game) and blocks (1.00 per game). The 5-11 middle/outside hitter recorded 14 double-doubles in kills and digs and 24 matches with double-figure kills.

Truman's career leader in kills per game (3.87), Zehr currently ranks among the school's career top-10 in 21 different categories. She has 42 career double-doubles (all kills and digs) and 75 career matches with double-digit kills.

The All-American Farm Team is a scholastic program honoring outstanding collegiate athletes who call a farm or ranch home. Selections to the team are made by a panel of judges comprised of sports writers and broadcasters, college coaches and sports information directors. All athletes named to the program's first team receive a $500 scholarship donated in their name to the college they attend. In addition, team captains designated on the All-American Farm Team receive a $750 scholarship. All selected athletes and their parents receive a plaque honoring their selection to the team.

The Truman volleyball team enters the 2000 season in search of their 11th consecutive 20-win season after finishing 23-9 last year. The Bulldogs also posted a program-best 14-2 record for second place in the MIAA.
