Two Volleyball Bulldogs Named to All-South Central Region Squad
Two members of the Truman State University volleyball squad have been named to the All-South Central Region volleyball team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association.
Sophomore Monica Marlowe (Aurora, Ill./West Aurora) and junior Eliza Hoerner (Augusta, Mo./Univ. of Colorado-Colorado Springs) were picked for the 12-person team, which honors the top players from the South Central Region.
Marlowe led the Bulldogs with 1,328 assists (10.62 per game) and digs 380 (3.04 per game) this season, while playing in 125 of the team's 132 games. She led an offense which finished the season with a .237 hitting percentage and averaged 15.22 kills per game. A first-team all-conference pick, Marlowe averaged 11.27 assists and 3.56 digs in 34 games with nationally-ranked opponents. Last year, Marlowe was named the region's freshman of the year. This year she was named to the all-tournament team at the regional, Truman's first postseason appearance since 1994.
Hoerner led Truman with 419 kills (3.35 per game) and hitting percentage (.308). She also had 37 aces (0.30 per game) 216 digs (1.73 p/g) and averaged 0.86 blocks a game. She averaged 3.21 kills, 0.44 service aces and 0.91 blocks in 34 games with nationally-ranked foes. Hoerner was a first-team all-conference pick this season and was picked for the all-tournament team at the regional tourney.
Truman finished the season with a 30-6 record after advancing to the championship match of the South Central Regional. The 'Dogs .833 winning percentage was their best ever and the team shared its first ever Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association championship with a 15-1 conference ledger.
