Felkerson Chosen for Daktronics All-America Second Team
Truman State University senior Cassy Felkerson (Salem, Mo.), who helped the Bulldog volleyball team to the best season in school history, has been named to the Daktronics All-America second team in vote of Division II sports information directors.
Felkerson is the first Truman volleyball player in history to receive Daktronics All-America recognition. Late in the 2001 season, she was one of two Bulldogs -- the first two in team history -- to earn All-America status from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. Felkerson was a first-team honoree on that squad.
Truman completed 2001 with a 37-2 record, an NCAA Division II Elite Eight Tournament appearance and a No. 3 national ranking.
This past season, Felkerson led the Bulldogs in kills (3.60 per game), blocks (1.05 pg), hitting percentage (1.05) and games played (131). She became the most decorated player in school history as she received first-team Verizon Academic All-America accolades for the first time and all-region honors by both the AVCA and Daktronics. The three-time academic all-district selection was also named a first-team All-Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association performer and the conference's MVP.
During the season, Felkerson was named AVCA Division II National Player of the Week once and was also picked as the MIAA Player of the Week one time. She was on three all-tournament teams, including the South Central Regional and the Elite Eight squads.
She led Truman to its first appearance at the women's volleyball "Elite Eight" national championship tournament. The 'Dogs finished the season with 34 wins in their last 36 home matches, including 22 straight. The team has also won 21 consecutive MIAA home matches, the longest active streak in the conference.
