Felkerson Named National Player of the Week
Truman State University senior Cassy Felkerson (Salem, Mo.) was named AVCA/Sports Imports National Player of the Week for Division II on Monday (Oct. 29) after she hit .536 in three Bulldog sweeps last week. She averaged 5.56 kills and 1.11 blocks per game as the 'Dogs ran their winning streak to 19 matches. She was also named MIAA Hitter of the Week for the first time this year and the third time of her career.
To begin the week of Oct. 22-28, Felkerson logged a team-leading 16 kills and hit .519 (16 kills, 2 errors, 27 attacks) with five blocks (one solo) in a 30-19, 30-15, 30-22 win at Northwest Missouri State.
At Emporia State (Kan.) on Friday she tied for the team lead with 11 kills and hit .385 (11-1-26) with one assist and one block as the 'Dogs won 30-28, 30-26, 30-26 over the Hornets.
In the final match of the week, at Washburn (Kan.), Felkerson logged a team season-high 23 kills with only two errors in 31 attempts for a .667 hitting percentage. She also had four blocks (all solo) in the 30-15, 30-8, 30-18 win.
The three wins pushed the Bulldogs' win streak to 19 matches and gave the team 30 wins for the second straight year but only the third time in team history.
Felkerson, a two-time Verizon Academic All-District selection and a pre-med/chemistry major, is the second player in team history to receive the honor. Neely Forbes was named AVCA National Player of the Week in 1993.
