Five More Announce Intentions to Play Volleyball for Truman

Head volleyball coach Qi Wang announced today that five more current high school seniors have committed to play volleyball at Truman State University next fall.

Jennifer Hunter, Jenna Kearns, Lauren Scannell and Micaela Walter have all signed national letters-of-intent to play for the Bulldogs in 2002. Additionally, Jordanne Foster will join the Truman squad this coming season.

Hunter is a 6-0 middle/outside hitter from Pleasant Hill, Mo., and was a second-team all-state selection as a senior. A three-time first-team all-district performer, Hunter led her Pleasant Hill High School team in kills and blocks in each of her last two years and helped the team to back-to-back state quarterfinal appearances. During her senior year, she set the school record with 935 career kills and helped the team to a 34-2-1 record.

Kearns, a 5-11 middle/outside hitter, brings more versatility to the Bulldog squad as she has experience at all three hitter positions. A first-team all-Big 12 Conference performer at Bloomington High School in 2001, Kearns was a starter for her varsity team in each of the last three seasons and ranked among area leaders in kills as a senior. She averaged 3.6 kills and 0.7 blocks as Bloomington finished the 2001 campaign with a 29-7 record. Kearns was also named second-team all-area for Class AA by the Pantagraph newspaper.

Scannell, a 5-9 outside hitter/libero, comes to Truman from Althoff High School in Belleville, Ill. She's a two-time all-state performer, including first team honors in 2001, and was picked as a Student Sports All-America. A three-time all-area pick by the Belleville News-Democrat, Scannell was named the area's player of the year by the newspaper at the end of this season. In 2001, her team placed third in the state and finished with a 36-4 record.

Walter is a 6-0 middle hitter from Shawnee Heights High School in Topeka, Kan. She was twice named All-Centennial League and was an honorable mention all-state selection in 2000. Named league's newcomer of the year as a junior, she helped her high school squad to the Kansas 5A state championship for the second straight season in 2000. This past season, Walter earned second-team all-city honors as Shawnee Heights advanced to the state tournament and finished with a 30-9 record.

Foster is a 6-1 middle hitter from Rolla, Mo., where she was an all-district and all-conference performer. A four-year letterwinner, Foster helped her team to the district championship match in each of the last three seasons. In 2001, the squad posted a 26-8 won-lost record.

The five latest additions join Tiffany Graham (Holden, Mo.), Amy Kreimer (Blue Springs, Mo.) and Megan Remley (Kearney, Mo.) as part of the Bulldog volleyball squad's 2002 recruiting class. Graham, Kreimer and Remley announced their intentions to play at Truman during the November early-signing period.

Graham is a 6-0 middle hitter from Holden, Mo. She was a three-time all-conference and all-district selection during her four-year high school career at Holden High School. A four-year letterman, Graham was named team MVP twice, including co-MVP honors once. She led the team in seven statistical categories this season and helped her team to three conference and two district titles. During her four years at HHS, the team posted a 93-31-9 record. Graham also plays basketball and softball at Holden.

Kreimer, a 6-0 right-side hitter, is from Blue Springs, Mo., where she helped Blue Springs High School to a third-place finish this year at the MSHSAA Class 4A Volleyball Championship. As a junior, Kreimer received all-conference and all-district accolades and was picked for the all-area team. As a sophomore, she was an honorable mention all-area choice. Kreimer played volleyball all four years in high school, and her versatility has allowed her to play some at middle hitter as well as right-side. She also participates in swimming.

Remley is a 6-1 middle/outside hitter from Kearney, Mo. She was a second-team all-district player as a sophomore in 1999, and earned first-team all-conference and all-district honors as a junior last year. This year, she helped her Kearney squad to the championship match of the district tournament. Remley also participates in basketball at KHS.

The Bulldogs return four starters from the 2001 team that finished with a 37-2 record after claiming championships in the South Central Region and Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association. Conference and regional coach of the year Qi Wang guided the 'Dogs to a perfect 16-0 ledger in MIAA action, as the team advanced to its first ever NCAA Division II Elite Eight and finished with a No. 3 national ranking.
