Albany State vs Central Missouri (Nov 20, 2003)


After trailing 17-10 in the opening game, Central Missouri used a 8-1 run to spark the team to 30-26 win in game one and eventually a 3-0 sweep over Albany State (Ga.) in the first-round of the NCAA South Central regional. The Jennies won the final two games by scores of 30-16 and 30-15 to advance to the regional semifinals.

Central Missouri hit .379 in the victory and held the Golden Rams to just a .097 mark for the match. Carrie Potthas led the Jennies with 19 kills and 13 digs and Elyse Mohme was in double-figures with 11 kills. Kaci Young had 12 digs and 38 assists and Mohme had a team-high three blocks.

Albany State was led by Janel Herring who had 11 kills. Sandra Boyd recorded 15 digs, Erica Nepote had 26 assists and Alona Brinson and Kierra Washington each had two blocks.

Central Missouri, now 25-10 on the year, will face Pittsburg State tomorrow night at 5 p.m. Albany State, the winner of the Southern Intercollegiate Athletic Conference tournament, ends its season with a 28-9 record.
