Truman Women's Basketball Signs Third Player For 2003-04 Season
Truman women's basketball head coach John Sloop has announced that Emily Markovich (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) has signed a national letter of intent to play for the Bulldogs, beginning in 2003-04. She joins to other early signees, Megan Patti (Towanda, Ill./Normal Community High School) and Natalie Schupbach (Wyoming, Ill./Stark County High School) who also signed national letters of intent.
Markovich began her basketball career as a member of the Notre Dame varsity team as a freshman, and has been named first-team all-conference the last two seasons. In addition, she was a third-team all-area pick as a sophomore and a second-team all-area, third-team all-state IBCA and first-team all-Times all-star team selection her junior season, as well as a member of the honorable mention News Gazette all-state team.
In 2001-02, Markovich's team was 26-6 and conference, regional and sectional champion. She averaged 13 points a game that season, along with 5.4 rebounds, 1.2 steals and 1.5 assists. Markovich shot 57% from the field and 63% from the free throw line as well.
She is also a goalkeeper on the soccer team, earning first-team all-conference recognition as a freshman and first-team all-area honors her sophomore year.
The Truman women's basketball team opens the 2002-03 regular season at Western Illinois University tomorrow at 7 p.m. Last season, the Bulldogs returned to the Mid-America Intercollegiate Athletics Association postseason tournament, after a one-year hiatus, and went 14-13 overall and 7-11 in the MIAA, an NCAA Division II conference.
